Barnwell native Jay Jules Heiden (1905-1983) was one of two sons of Polish immigrants Max Heiden (b. 1876) and Minnie Padget (1880-1957), merchants who split their time between New York and South Carolina. He married Rose Drucker Heiden (1909-2003), a native of Poland, in New York before returning to South Carolina in the 1930s. He opened Heiden’s, later known as Glamour Corner in Lake City. Sometime later he opened a second location in Kingstree.
