Polish immigrants Wolfe (1848-1904) and Dora Witcover (1845-1924) moved from Timmonsville to Darlington sometime between 1880 and 1900, where he continued to work as a merchant. Following Wolfe’s death, Dora operated a boarding house that catered to young Jewish men. All eight of their children were born in South Carolina: Simon (b. 1869), Hyman, David (1873-1952), Lena (1874-1960), Estella, Theresa, Irene, and Miriam. The 1910 census listed David as a merchant in Darlington.
