Sugenheimer & Groeschel

Sugenheimer & Groeschel was a clothing store founded around 1879 by Bavarian natives, Bernhardt Sugenheimer (c.1837-1904) and Joseph Groeschel (1848-1904). Together, Bernhardt and Joseph operated at two locations: the Gerig Building at 122 South Congress Street and another store previously occupied by a Mr. Sol Wolfe. They dissolved their partnership in the spring of 1881 with Bernhardt maintaining a portion of the Gerig Building and Joseph continuing to operate at Wolfe’s former location. After pursuing various industries in Winnsboro, both Joseph and Bernhardt eventually left Fairfield County to pursue other opportunities. They ultimately died within four months of each other in 1904.
