Merchant
c.1940-c.1950

Mullins, SC 29574

FAMILIES: Iseman

Abraham “Abe” Iseman (1888-1953) was born in Darlington, South Carolina, to merchant Myer Iseman (1849-1919) and his wife Hattie Katz Iseman (1858-1922). In 1916, Abe married Baltimore native Bertha Solomon (1898-1975) in Marion, South Carolina, and together the couple welcomed two children—Rosina Leah (1917-2005) and Harold Lester (1919-1988)—in Dillon County. There, in the unincorporated town of Little Rock, Abe operated a general store up until the Great Depression. Around 1935, the Isemans moved to Mullins where both Abe and Harold eventually worked for fellow Jewish merchant Irwin Joseph “Joe” Fleishman (1899-1945). At the time of his death, Abe was identified in his obituary as the operator of a general merchandise store in Mullins.
