Harold Lester Iseman (1919-1988) was born in Dillon County and likely grew up assisting his father, Abraham “Abe” Iseman (1888-1953), in his general merchandise store. During the Great Depression, the Iseman family moved to Mullins, South Carolina, where both Harold and his father worked for fellow Jewish merchant Irwin Joseph “Joe” Fleishman (1899-1945). During World War II, Harold likely served in the army after he was ordered to report to Fort Jackson in Columbia. He later returned to Mullins where he established a grocery store in his name. In 1976, an US District Court Judge sentenced Harold to two and a half years in prison for insurance fraud.
