According to the 1900 Census, Aaron Moses Pareira (1873-1930), husband of Carrie Maxine Solomons Pareira (1874-1970), worked as a traveling salesman of lye and potash, ingredients used to improve soil for farming. That year, he became the manager of the new Hotel Sumter. After four years of hotel management, Aaron went to work as a salesman for the Republic Bag and Paper Co. Around 1905, the couple moved to Chicago, where Aaron worked for the Victory Bag and Paper Co.
