FAMILIES: Block

Russian immigrant, Benjamin S. Block (1863-1936) immigrated to the United States around 1879 and lived in New York for four years before settling in Baltimore for another two. Around 1885, he moved to the town of Darlington, South Carolina and married Adeline Hyman (1868-1935). In 1889, he voluntarily declared bankruptcy and was released from liability the following year. Around 1900, he opened a dry good store in Darlington which he operated until his retirement in 1930.
