After the death of her husband, Herman Schwerin (1852-1895), Cecile Schwerin (1852-1919), formerly a stay-at-home spouse, went to work to provide for herself and her children. The 1900 and 1910 Censuses list her occupation as “Capitalist” and “Own Income”, respectively. Newspaper research hints that Mrs. Schwerin dealt in real estate, although it is possible that she also bought and sold goods.
