Henry Weinberg’s Liquor Saloon

From 1888 until around 1904, Henry Weinberg (1856-1941) operated a barroom in Manning, South Carolina. In 1891, Weinberg married Ulrica Lohse (1866-1942), the daughter of a German Gentile from Georgetown, South Carolina. Although the Lohse family opposed the marriage, Weinberg and Lohse eloped at the Central Hotel in Manning, South Carolina before a probate judge. Weinberg likely continued in the liquor business until he founded a lien and cash business in Mayesville, South Carolina in 1904. In 1890, Weinberg opened a liquor saloon in Elloree, South Carolina. Per The State, Weinberg also operated a liquor store Georgetown.¹
