FAMILIES: Sribnick

Hyman Sribnick (1886-1978) immigrated from Russia to the United States in 1905. Hyman married Rose Sribnick (1893-1947) in 1909, and together they had three children. In 1915, Hyman purchased the building at 825 Washington Street opening Hyman’s Grocery CO. Hyman’s son, Isidore Joseph Sribnick (1910-2002) worked in the store learning the grocery trade before serving in the military during World War II. According to Isidore’s son, Wayne Sribnick, when Isidore returned from the war in 1946, Hyman sold the grocery store to him. Isidore ran the family business until 1953 when the City of Columbia bought the property, after which he operated multiple other businesses in the Columbia area.
