Iseman Iseman (c.1813-1870) immigrated to the United States from Baden, Germany around 1849 with his wife, Hannah Iseman (1826-1879) and two daughters, Bethe and Lizella. By 1851, the Isemans had moved to South Carolina, and by 1860 they were living in Marion. By 1860, the family had expanded to include three sons, Simon, Isaac, and David. That year, Iseman worked as a merchant, owned real estate worth $4,000, and oversaw a personal estate worth $8,000. In 1870, he tragically died in a large fire in downtown Marion. Hannah and her eldest son, Isaac (1850-1928), were left to support the family. Carrying on her husband’s business, Hannah worked as a merchant. The year of her husband’s death she oversaw real estate worth $4,500 and a personal estate worth 4,620.
