FAMILIES: Goldstein

Isidor Goldstein (1829-1895) was born in modern day Posen, Germany and later moved to New York. Once settled in the United States, he married Clara (c.1855-1922), a South Carolina native, and welcomed two sons, Arthur (b. 1873) and Milton (b. c.1876). In the late 1870s, Isidor and his family moved to Florence, South Carolina as the Reconstruction era was coming to a close. There, Isidor opened a grocery store which he likely managed until his death at age sixty-six.

The Jewish Merchant Project is supported by the generosity of the Henry & Sylvia Yaschik Foundation and the Stanley B. Farbstein Endowment at the Coastal Community Foundation.
