Jacob “Jack” Greenberg (1911-1950) was born in New York and raised in Charleston by Russian immigrants, Isadore (1890-1950) and Mollie Greenberg (1890-1952). He likely grew up helping his parents at their business, the Kosher Restaurant, before briefly serving as the manager of the Friendly Shoe Store at 467 King Street around 1934. In the 1930s, Jack married Norma Krause (1910-1974) and together they had four sons. In the 1940 US Census, Jack was listed as the manager of a retail grocery store, and in 1948 he successfully applied for a building permit to build a store at 80 Morris Street. Jack died two years later at the age of 39.
