FAMILIES: Reinstein

Louis Reinstein (c.1826-1905) was born in Bavaria and settled in St. Luke’s Parish—which now spans modern-day Beaufort and Jasper counties—around 1865. In 1872, he married fellow Bavarian-native Regina Sondhelm (1850-1943) and together they started a family in Ridgeland, near the unincorporated community of Coosawhatchie. Louis operated a general merchandise business there for approximately forty years until his death. Around 1910, Regina moved to Charleston where she and her children established Reinstein Brothers.
