FAMILIES: Poliakoff

Estelle Levkoff Poliakoff (1914-2005) established Poliakoff Man around 1940 at 305 South Main Street. Located at the same address as New York Pawn Shop—a store owned by her in-laws—    Poliakoff Man likely served as a temporary wholesale arm for the family business.

Born in Augusta, Georgia, Estelle married Max Poliakoff (1908-1990) in 1935. Together, Estelle and Max shared a love of music and entertaining. Though Estelle spent many years running an office furniture business with Max, according to her obituary, she was “best remembered for singing and entertaining on her live radio show, in Augusta, in the 1930s, as Ford Motor Company’s Sunshine Girl.” While living in Anderson, she also volunteered at the Anderson Little Theater with her sister-in-law, Dorothy (1916-2000).
