Lipman Philip Rich (1894-1968), grandson of merchant Moritz Rich (1819-1901), opened Rich’s Clothing and Shoes in downtown Orangeburg around 1925. According to the 1930 Census, Rich sold ladies’ clothing from his store. By 1940, he left the merchant business and was working as a life insurance agent.
