1929-c.1933

Main Street
Columbia, SC 29201

FAMILIES: Levkoff

In 1929, the Parisian Dress Shop (also known as The Parisian) opened its doors at 1612 Main Street. The Parisian was a business venture of entrepreneurial twins George (1881-1959) and Lazarus Levkoff (1881-1933) and sold women’s hats, coats, and dresses. The Levkoffs advertised their shop as having the latest fashions purchased in New York City. The store was originally operated by George and Lazarus, and in 1931, was under the sole management of Lazarus. The Parisian downsized and relocated to 1425 Main Street due to economic depression in 1931, sharing a building with another clothier. The store closed around the time of Lazarus’s death in 1933.
