From around 1900 until 1921, German immigrant Alfred Abraham Strauss (1841-1925) held interest in Wisacky, South Carolina general store W. W. Deschamps. Local Gentile William Wayne Deschamps (1854-1921) managed the store and may have owned most of its shares given its name. The store fell under the umbrella of Strauss’s general merchandise company A. A. Strauss, which operated branch stores in Sumter, Camden, Mayesville, and Summerton, South Carolina.
