After Jacob Denemark (1881-1947) moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1922, he sold his dry goods and clothing business to Harry Siegel (1893-1966). Siegel immigrated to the United States from Poland in 1913 and was Denemark’s brother-in-law. Although he bought out Denemark’s stock in 1922, Siegel didn’t begin selling goods until 1924. H. Siegel operated at 26 South Main Street in Sumter until 1935, when it moved to 7 South Main Street. H. Siegel closed in 1937.
