FAMILIES: Freed; Ross

After they returned home from World War II, Hyman Freed (1916-1994) and his brother-in-law, Gilbert Ross (1921-1997), founded Reliable Pawn Shop at 33 West Liberty Street in Sumter, South Carolina. After their deaths, the store passed into the hands of employee John Nesbitt. Nesbitt opened another location in Manning, South Carolina in 1997. Ross’s wife, Molly Ross (1905-2005), worked at the store from 1946 until 2005.
