FAMILIES: Brick

Abraham Benjamin Brick (1876-1952) was born in Russia to Mr. and Mrs. Hersh “Harry” Brick and immigrated to the United States via New York around 1896. He moved to Florence County around 1909 and began operating a general store in Lake City called A. B. Brick’s Store. There, he stocked everything from mixed peas and corn to clothing, shoes, and furs. He also habitually purchased stock from bankrupt merchants closing shops nearby and resold everything from the stores’ products to the counters, dress fixtures, registers, and weighing scales. In 1945, he announced that he had sold his stock to Cromer’s Dry Goods store in Lake City. Abraham later pursued opening a liquor store before formally retiring around 1950.
