Berry’s on Main at Woodhill Mall

Clothier
1979

6000 Garners Ferry Road
Columbia, SC

FAMILIES: Berry

In early 1979, downtown clothier Berry’s on Main opened its third suburban store at the newly completed Woodhill Mall. Unlike its two other suburban locations at Dutch Square and Richland Mall, which sold both men’s and women’s clothes, apparel, and shoes, the Woodhill Mall store carried only women’s fashions. Despite the popularity of the Berry’s on Main brand amongst Columbians, the unexpected death of the company’s president, Joe B. Berry (1916-1979), left it in an unstable position, which led the Woodhill Mall store to close in May 1979.
