In 1920, an article in Orangeburg newspaper The Times and Democrat listed F. G. Katz as one of the town’s Jewish merchants who donated to the creation of a “South Carolina Memorial.” 1 Katz operated a dry goods store at 102 West Russell Street. In 1921, thieves stole about $1,400 worth of goods from his store (about $22,000 when adjusted for inflation).
