In 1922, Polish immigrant Harry Siegel (1893-1966) bought Sumter clothing store J. Denemark from his brother-in-law Jacob Denemark (1881-1947). Siegel ran the store, renamed H. Siegel, until 1937. Around 1945, he opened a liquor store at 2 West Hampton Avenue in Sumter. He opened another liquor store in 1962, this one located on East Liberty Street in Sumter.
