As a young man, Julian Levy Jr. (1884-1960) worked in his father’s retail grocery store Levy & Moses in Sumter, South Carolina. Following the death of Julian Levy Sr. (1843-1916), Julian Levy Jr. continued in the grocery business until around 1931, when he opened the restaurant Julian’s at 106-108 North Main Street in downtown Sumter. Julian’s remained in operation until 1945. Outside of his mercantile activities, Julian was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Temple Sinai Men’s Club, served as president of Temple Sinai, and was active in the local community theater.
