A year after he closed Sumter clothing, shoes, and dry goods store The Battery, Solomon L. Krasnoff (1874-1936) opened Krasnoff’s Department Store at 32 North Main Street in downtown Sumter. As with any department store, Krasnoff’s sold a variety of clothing, accessories, and millinery. The store also included a grocery department and sold disc records. Krasnoff sold the store in 1925 to a merchant by the name of Morris Yoffee (1875-1926). One year before he closed the department store, Krasnoff opened a children’s store at 3 South Main Street in Sumter called Krasnoff’s Kiddy Shop.
