FAMILIES: Nussbaum

After the death of B. Nussbaum and Son founder Bernard “Barnie” Nussbaum (1882-1940), his son, J. Philip Nussbaum (1914-1995), took over the business. Rebranded Nussbaum’s Department Store, the store stocked casual and fine clothing for the whole family. In late 1983, the Times and Democrat newspaper of Orangeburg advertised Nussbaum’s inventory and property for sale. By the end of the next year, Nussbaum’s held its final closing sale, ending the Nussbaum family store in Branchville after more than 70 years in business.
