FAMILIES: Rubin

Sam Rubin (1888-1940) immigrated to the United States from Russia around 1908 with his wife, Rebecca (1894-1962), and uncle, Nathan Levine (1887-1964). The trio lived in New York City before they moved to Summerton, South Carolina in 1919. Upon his arrival in Summerton, Rubin started a general merchandise business, which he operated until his death in 1940.

The Jewish Merchant Project is supported by the generosity of the Henry & Sylvia Yaschik Foundation and the Stanley B. Farbstein Endowment at the Coastal Community Foundation.
