After The New Idea Co. closed in 1922, its proprietor, Polish immigrant Morris Ness (1887-1975), continued to work as a merchant in Manning, South Carolina, selling clothes and shoes. Ness’s business went bankrupt in 1924, and he relocated to Denmark, South Carolina that same year. Ness went on to open the successful Ness’ Department Store.
