From about 1920 to about 1935, Russian immigrant Louis Goldiner (1870-1940) operated a dry goods store in Orangeburg, South Carolina. His son, Alexander Goldiner (1900-1983), worked in the store as a salesman before he opened his own dry goods store in St. Matthews, South Carolina by 1940. During the 1910s, Louis and his family lived in Florence, South Carolina, where he operated two dry goods stores. Before coming to South Carolina, the Goldiners lived in New York City, with Louis working as a neckwear manufacturer.
