FAMILIES: Ackerman

In 1965, Roger Ackerman (1932-2018), his wife, and their three children moved from Goldsboro, North Carolina to Sumter. Experienced in the scrap metal business, Roger was initially employed in Sumter as general manager of Addlestone Co. In 1970, Roger founded his own scrap metal business, Ackerman Metals, Inc., on Airport Road in Sumter. Ackerman Metals, Inc. remained in operation until 1996. In addition to his work as a businessman, Ackerman served as president of the Sumter Rotary Club and president of Temple Sinai.
