Lafayette Gomez Emanuel was born in New York City on August 19, 1824. By 1850, he had moved to Georgetown, South Carolina, where his relative Nathan lived with his family. In Georgetown, Lafayette worked as a retail dry goods and general merchandise merchant through 1900. L. G. Emanuel died in 1908.
